Sleep Problems During Pregnancy – What to Do

  • Sharebar

Are sleep problems during pregnancy keeping you awake?

Pregnancy is an exiting time, but if you’re having trouble sleeping, this can make it very tiresome. Sleep problems during pregnancy may be caused by physical reasons such as being uncomfortable or having to run to the bathroom every few hours, to emotional reasons like anxiety over the birth or even worry about not being able to sleep.

Compounding the problem is the fact that you have to be very careful about what you take to relax. Even some of the natural sleep remedies are not safe for pregnant women. Some of the herbal remedies for sleep can actually be dangerous and cause early contractions, so always check the label before swallowing anything to help you sleep.

So what’s an expectant mum to do? On our pregnancy sleep problems page there are several suggestions on how to sleep better while pregnant, including a homeopathic sleep aid that is safe to take while pregnant.

It’s important not to become anxious about not sleeping. Simply relax and go with it and realize that your body will get the sleep it needs. See your doctor if the lack of sleep is getting you down, but do realize that medication prescribed by a GP will be some type of drug, so do your research before taking it and don’t take it every night.

Yoga is a relaxing way to unwind before bed and may help you go to sleep a bit faster. Here is a video with safe poses to help you sleep better.
