Here are some insomnia tips and questions and answers that may help some of you that have similar problems. Remember not any one thing will work for everyone, so it’s worth experimenting to see if one does the trick for you. I have left out all names.
Hi Wendy and Crew, I was up all night because of a confrontation with a person from my church before bedtime, of all things. And also because my husband is on a back-to-back deployment to Iraq and has been sending me hurtful emails. Hopefully he will be coming home soon so we can deal with our problems. In the mean time, I was wondering how I should go about my day with the least amount unpleasantness from staying up all night worrying. Should I go back to bed at around 8:30am after I normally drop my son off at school? Or would it be wiser to go work out then as I normally would and take a nap later? Because I don’t think I can make it all day without any sleep. This doesn’t happen often, last night was definitely out of the ordinary.
Please advise!
Gratefully,
Hi
I would try to stay awake during the day and carry on as normal. If you need a nap, make it short (no longer than 30 minutes) and before 4 pm. Otherwise you’ll risk disrupting your sleep cycle.
It’s hard to go to sleep when you’re worrying about things, I know. Try listening to a Cd (spoken words work better than music for me) or try out EFT which is great for releasing stress, worry etc. Free resources at EFT Universe.com.
Hope this helps and hope you get your problems sorted soon!

Hello Wendy! I am a 40-year old male from the India. I have insomnia for the past 20 years and that was due to mental pressure and anxiety. However, I am quite okay with current job role and personal life now.
My main problem is that, once I hit my bed pillow by mind starts running and will never stop till I get from the bed. Since, I am diabetic, I do a regular walk for one hour every day and but still that does not help. I have tried most of the English and Ayurveda medicine and still no luck so far.
One good thing is that, when I have a moderate Alcohols, my mind stop worrying and think and get two hours sleep only, which I don’t want to continue. I really appreciate if you can help me to prescription a good Ayurveda or Home remedies medicine to get at least four sleep during night.
Thanks you in advance
Hi
I’m not going to recommend a herbal sleep medication, even though there is a good one on the site. These work better for some people and not for others. What you need to do is try and calm your busy mind and there are a few ways to do this.
One is to write down everything you have in your mind in a notebook or diary every night before turning off the light. Then tell yourself “I will take care of it all tomorrow”. This may sound too simple to work, but it is very effective.
You could also try distraction – Listen to a sound recording of someone speaking when you lie down to sleep. It can be about any subject. I find personal development ones bore me to sleep very well!
Practice mind control by slowly counting backwards from 100 to 1. Sound easy? Just try it, you’ll be surprised how difficult it is. Each time you loses count go back to 100. This will train your mind to focus on one thing at a time and is helpful for relaxation.
Good luck with these, I hope they work for you.

Hi Wendy,
I have always slept very well until 4 weeks ago I came back from holiday and had very bad jet lag, but as the days went on and my husbands body clock went back to normal I created an anxiety over not being able to sleep and the more i think about it the worse every night is. I went to the doctors after 1 week of not sleeping well and he put me on Zopiclone pills and I had them for 2 weeks at a high dose, but they started to not work as well, I went back to the doctor and he said he wouldn’t give me the same dose as i was getting addicted to them so he gave me a lower dose and said my problem was now anxiety, so i am still taking them at a lower dose, but they don’t really do anything and I hate the taste in my mouth, but am so scared i won’t sleep, every-time I get to the point of sleeping nearly i jump and wake up, I think this may be because of the anxiety, my appetite has gone and I feel very low as I think about it all the time, do you have any advise please.
Hi
Worrying about not being able to sleep is one of the main reason for insomnia today. Doctors are notorious for just handing out sleeping pills without really trying to establish the cause, probably through lack of time. You sound very stressed about the whole problem and this is keeping you awake. It is a vicious circle. Just remember your body does know how to sleep and this is just a temporary problem (even though it may not seem like it right now)
Start to wean yourself off the pills gradually and trust your body to get the sleep it needs. Hypnotherapy can help relax you if needed. Another tip is to get out of the bedroom and sleep on the lounge or in the spare room, this will physically remove you from your bed which you have come to associate with staying awake.
Above all, try not to let it matter!
Good luck
Wendy
