The link between depression and insomnia certainly exists, but the
medical experts are always disagreeing about whether to treat the
insomnia or the depression or both.
Depression and sleep disorders go hand in hand. Does the depression cause the sleep disorders or is it the other way ’round? It doesn’t matter because we have the same end result. We’re unhappy and we can’t sleep!
Depression medication has been shown not to work so why is it prescribed so freely? One theory is because it’s believed that chemical inbalances in the brain cause depression so chemical medication is needed to “balance” the brain. In fact the chemical inbalances are only a symptom of depression, not the cause.
Drug companies are always pushing their medications onto doctors (Oh
really?) who find it easier to prescribe them to their patients than to
dig too deep into the cause of the depression.
We need to treat both conditions at the same, but not with mind altering chemicals! Depression and insomnia both need special treatment and can be resolved with a bit of know-how.
The article “Is there a link between
insomnia and depression” explains how to go about it.
