How Long Typically Can A Baby Sleep In His Or Her Cradle, Bassinet??

    By administrator | July 18, 2009

I was just wondering because I am worried about SIDS. I was thinking 3 months, but I am not sure? This is my first baby. I am still not due for a few weeks. We have already set up the crib in the nursery which is down the hall from our room, but I don’t feel comfortable having a three month old sleep down the hall, especially because of SIDS. What have you done, or will you do?? Thanks!! 31 weeks 6 days pregnant.

my baby’s bassinett says not to exceed 15 lbs or 3 months…my daughter is 10 weeks and 12 lbs 2 oz…she in a few weeks we will move her crib into our room and she will sleep in her crib in our room until she is 6 months old and then we will put her in her nursery.

My son is 9 1/2 months old and he is STILL sleeping in his bassinet, lol! I have a crib for him and he takes naps in there but he wont sleep in it at night because he loves the feeling of the bassinet cradling him I guess. How he fits in there still you ask? I have NO IDEA lol… but recently he started pulling himself up to a sitting position and wants to crawl out of the bassinet so he is hopefully going to start sleeping in his crib now.

we had our baby sleep in the bassinett for the first few days and she hated it lol.
but she loved her papasan swing!! she slept through the night when we put her in it!
it just cradles her so perfectly and my friends baby almost died of sids she just stopped breathing and the dr recommended putting her to sleep in a reclined position.
so now I do my daughter is 4 months old and I am just now starting to put her in her crib next to my bed…
she wont sleep in her room until she is 1 year I have decided.
but the swing everyone does it I asked the same question a few months ago and tons of people recommended this swing…
good luck and just do what is comfortable for you!

My younger baby is approx 7 months and we are just now moving her out of the bassinet. But I do not leave her alone in it. My older daughter used it around 7 months as well. Pretty much when she is starting to roll over a lot or sit up, you have to get rid of it. Both slept best at night in the swing so not sure how much help I am! So I would say more than 3 months, but really depends how active your baby is – AND how much they like the bassinet/cradle. Good luck!

My son is 4 months old and he is still in his bassinet. I had him in his crib for a week but he feeds at least twice in the night so its just so much easier having him next to me…plus…I feel so much better having him close! I love hearing him breath. ( and the moniter just isnt the same!! )

some have a weight and height limit…. so obviously when they hit that…. they can’t sleep in it anymore. Also, when they begin to roll around or onto there sides….. its usually a good time to give it up. We switched from bassinet to crib when my son was about three months old.

My daughter is 6 months old and I still have her crib in our bedroom. When she is 8 months I might try to move her… just keep the crib in your room for a bit.

If you’re worried about SIDS then bring the crib into your bedroom.

My daughter used her bassinet until she was three months old. But it usually depends with the height and the weight of your baby. And if you are really worried with SIDS you can put your bassinet or crib in your room.
