I have had insomnia on and off for years. Only recently did it become chronic.I am wondering if there are any good methods around to beat it.

Set your alarm to one time (the time you want to wake up each morning) and follow it strictly. Your body should adjust to the new wake up time and let you go to sleep when it needs to.
To help you get to sleep:
1) during the day get lots of sunlight
2) exercise in the morning
3) don’t have any caffeine. be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
4) take a warm bath and have a warm glass of milk or cup of chamomile tea before sleep
5) don’t watch tv or use the computer for at least a half hour before sleep. Instead do something in a dimmer light.
6) don’t have a big meal before going to sleep but also don’t go to sleep on an empty stomach. have a small snack, such as yogurt (which also contains tryptophan).
7) make sure there is no noise, no light, smells fine and the room temperature is a cool 65 degrees and your comfortable in bed.
Also, go to sleep at the same time each night. Its important to establish a sleep schedule.
I’d try to get a ‘sleep schedule’ started (you can create your own bedtime routine), and going to bed at or around the same time each night. Avoid caffine after 1pm, and limit it before that. Try not to have your computer turned on in the bedroom, in case people IM you. Same goes for the television. I’ve heard that both of them will cause you to stay awake. There is also a valerian tea. It tastes horrible, but it works to bring you down a notch, and makes you a little sleepy.
Seek medical help. There are medications like Ambien and others that will help.
Also, some life-style adjustments might be required.
Same here.
I drink chamomile tea before going to bed.
I cant sleep well if at all without it.
