Will A Baby Sleep Better If I Play Music While She Sleeps?

  • Sharebar

If I play calming music while my baby sleeps, will she sleep better?
There are a total of 5 adults and 1 baby in the house and most of the adults are night owls including baby’s Dad.
Baby sleeps in a crib in our bedroom.

  1. just a thought says:

White noise can block out other sounds and help to not wake the baby. Be careful not to overuse it though, because it can harm the baby’s development. http://www.webmd.com/baby/news/20030417/...

  2. I think it will work. some babys like to sleep to noise.

  3. poohbear doesn't give a F**K says:

Yes it really helps… It seems to drowned all the other noises in the house. I press repeat on her cd player and play the same song over and over again. It keeps a steady noise for her to hear while all kinds of other noises are echoed through out the house….lol

  4. T-T says:

Yeah it will calm them and also make them smarter as I read but music is definititly number 1 but it has to be soft music and not really loud crazy music.

when the baby hears the constant noise the other noises will be harder for her to hear (like a noisey daddy!)

  7. Stakiefe says:

Sometimes the distraction will work to drowned out some back ground noise. You can also try giving baby a bath before bed to relax her, also try reading a story or singing a song. Babies love the sound of Mommy’s voice, it is extremely soothing. All babies are different, something will eventually work for her!
    Best of Luck!

Yes it can certainly help. Also you could try white noise to see what difference that makes. For example, some babies will sleep well with the noise of a washing machine or vacuum cleaner! You don’t have to leave these machines on all the time of course … you could just record them, or buy a white noise CD.

It would be a nice idea to have some calm music playing to make the baby go to sleep or while he’s sleeping. I know for a fact that when I play meditation music I can sleep better and it might work for babies too. I have tried it with my unborn baby…and he gets calm in my belly when I play that music…when we play his daddy’s music, he starts kicking LOL.
Just last night I played meditation music…and I went to sleep like a baby! LOL…so I’m sure it should work for your baby :) but it’s always good to make them used to go to sleep in various situations or environments…you know, with lots of noise, no noise at all, with T.V. on, T.V. off…radio on or off…just try everything and make him get used to all kinds of environments so when he is older you won’t have to ALWAYS go back home to a VERY quiet room so he can go to sleep.

Yes, my son loves it when you play music for him espically when he is trying to sleep. when he is in his swing we put the music on and he will sleep until it’s time to get up and be change and feed

I PLAYED SOFT CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR MY SON FROM ABOUT 3 MO TILL HE WAS ABOUT 1YR OLD. THEN I WEANED HIM OFF OF IT ONLY BECAUSE I FELT THAT FOR HIM TO TRULY SLEEP AND HAVE HIS BRAIN AT REST THERE NEEDS TO BE SILENCE. FOR BABIES FROM 0-3MO USE WHITE NOISE LIKE A RADIO ON STATIC ON A LOW VOLUME. THEY SAY THAT THE WOMB SOUNDS SIMILAR TO THAT SO IT COMFORTS THE BABY.
DO IT FOR AS MANY MONTHS AS YOU WANT THE ONLY THING THAT I RECOMMEND IS TO TURN THE MUSIC OFF AFTER ABOUT 1 HOUR.
BABIES NEED TO BE USED TO A CERTAIN LEVEL OF NOISE SO THAT THEY DO NOT WAKE UP AT THE SOUND OF A PIN DROP, MUSIC CAN HELP. BABIES DO HAVE TO FIND METHODS TO SELF SOOTH SO THAT WHEN THEY ARE OLDER THEY DO NOT HAVE TROUBLE SLEEPING.

I know it helps my baby when I play soft, classical music for her at night… It won’t hurt to try!

  13. Momma2Be says:

It might be soothing, and definitely a good routine to get into to. Because even if it doesn’t make much of a difference now, when they’re older you’ll just have to turn on that certain cd and they’ll know its time to sleep. Much better than kids like my niece who have to have their tv on to sleep. Good Luck

  14. Talon's Mommy says:

I play a cd of white noise for my daughter and she sleeps right through the night. (she didnt before I started)
