How Can I Make My Infant Baby Sleep At Night ?

    By administrator | June 7, 2009

My baby boy is 2 months old. For the last 15 days, he has developed a habit of sleeping all day and waking up all night. How can I trick him into sleep at night ?? Some innovative tips please.

Your son has his nights and days confused. This is very common but very draining on the parents. All you need to do is keep him up as much as you can during the day. Both of my Children had this problem and I found if I kept them awake for as long as I could during the day they slept much better at night. SOme suggestions on keeping them awake during the day is to 1. limit how long their naps are only let them sleep for an hour AT THE Most 2. When they do wake up keep them up for hours at a time…this may seem hard to do but all you have to do is little things such as talkign to your infant changing their diaper, clothing, change their position etc

Play with him more during the day, and give him his bath in the day. Feed him a bottle shortly before bed time so that he goes to sleep with a full belly. change his diaper right before bed too. Don’t do anything to stimulating right before bed.

You could try playing music that sounds like the mothers heartbeat. It is said that it helps the baby to get to sleep. Hope that helps. :]

Congratulations on the birh of your baby. Try wrapping him in a blanket so his arms cant thrash around, it makes them feel secure. Hope this helps.

Oh oh oh, I’d LOVE to answer this one!
First of all, congratulations on your precious little one! I have a three month old and a 19 month old, both of which had trouble with sleeping during the night between birth and 3 months old.
Here’s a list of things that you can try and have worked for my two little boys:
Offer the breast or bottle more often during the day.
Keep as few lights on as possible during middle of the night wakings. Blue or green lightbulbs in a lamp work well for lighting, but keep the ‘night’ effect when they wake. Keep lights on during daytime naps as well. This helps them learn that night is night and day is day.
If they wake during the night, do what you have to do (a feeding, a changing, etc.) and then put them back to bed, don’t linger and keep them up. Also, avoid eye contact with them. This is a HARD one, but it works well. When you make eye contact with your baby, their heart rate increases and makes them more awake and alert.
If you’re rooming in, you may want to try putting the baby in his own room. I wanted to room in SO badly, but we found with BOTH of our sons, that as soon as they had their own room, they slept 8-12 hours during the night!
If they’re rooming in and co-sleeping, you may want to try putting him/her in a bassinet. Your movements might be waking them.
If they’re already in their own room, try rooming in with them! Variety works well, so find out what makes them comfortable.
Don’t attempt to swaddle him/her unless he’s younger than 1 month, (believe it or not, they’ve learned to love the freedom that the womb and swaddling restricts!) but DO dress them in warm clothing for bed.
Good luck, I hope something works and you’re able to catch up on your own sleep too. :)

I know how you feel i just gave birth to my son on dec 26th 2005, and i still wake up at night. If you are home with him during the day try sleeping when he sleeps. I dunno how you feed breast or bottle but i breast and if you try and feed more during the day then you will have to feed less at night. So if u breastfeed try feeding as much as possible during the day. Try to hold him off on feeding without making him cry alot. If he just wakes up wait a lil before feeding hold him off but changing him/her or moving arms and legs. Good luck
