natural cures for insomnia

On Days That I Have To Get Up Early I Usually Have Insomnia The Night Before. How To Fix This Problem?

  • Sharebar

I’ve tried warm milk, melatonin, Unisom sleeping pills, Valerian root, none really helped that much. Is there any other sleeping aid that i could use?

its a tough one to get past because what you are actually suffering from is anxiety, you are worried about getting enough sleep and because of that extra focus you are not able to sleep. this is something that i used to have to deal with frequently, the night before anything important or any day where i knew i had to be up really early. the best method is to think about the situation, basically sit yourself down and think realistically about it. you probably have a fear of not getting enough or maybe not getting ANY sleep, well you can get by with no sleep for one day, doctors and firefighters do this every time they go to work, they work a 36 hour shift nonstop, so if they can handle it and still perform very important tasks then you should be able to as well, its all in your mind, your mind is a powerful thing. so anyway think about that and accept your “fate” EXPECT to not get any sleep at all and be ok with it. with that attitude you will probably wind up getting more sleep then you would if you were worried about it and doing everything you can to get to sleep.
it works for me, i dont worrie about it and it is very rare for me to have trouble sleeping now.

    I haven’t a clue. I get like that sometimes.
I’ve had, and continue to have major problems with insomnia.
Sad part is, i like to sleep; and i like a full night’s rest; i just can never seem to get one.
I was told it is due to depression/anxiety/stress.
IF you consume a lot of caffeinated beverages, you should probably try to set a cut off time for those, some point in the early evening. IF you can, also set a regular bedtime for yourself. That way, your body gets used to being tired at the same time every night.
Those were things suggested to me; though the regulated sleep schedulle is very hard for me to do, either in general or because of work schedulle.
I hope you find something that works for you. I know the feeling, and it sucks. You practically have to OD and consume enough sleeping pills to kill a horse just to be able to fall asleep. *sighs* i hope it gets better for you.

I have to get up at 4:30 am to be at work by 6:30 am. I feel your pain. Some people take benedryl 25mg to help them sleep. It has the opposite effect on me. I have used prescription alprazolam .25mg. It’s just enough to turn off your mind and let you get a good night’s rest. It can be addictive so I only take it when I’m wired and can’t calm my mind down. Ambien is another good perscription med for sleep. Talk to your doctor. If you have tried all the otc’s you can take, he may prescribe you something more effective.

I suffered exactly the same, with shift work, when I had an early morning, as I usually did evenings. Nothing ever worked for me, except the pharmacy medication for period pain, that includes a calmative. Good luck.

try not worrying about it so much. some times you can “psych yourself out” of getting to sleep. try googling some deep relaxation techniques like deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, etc…
    EDIT – here’s a site http://www.umm.edu/sleep/relax_tech.htm

  11. Ok. I have done this a couple times before. Whenever I have to sleep, I just pop a couple generic sleep aids, take about 4 shots of vodka, and then I can sleep like a baby for as long as I need to. Seriously, it works.
