What Good Old Home Remedies Should I Take To Battle My Insomnia?

    By administrator | January 30, 2010

Eat a light snack before bedtime. Bread and fruit will do nicely an hour or two before you hit the hay. So will a glass of warm milk. Avoid sugary snacks that can excite your system or heavy meals that can stress your body.
Take a warm bath. One theory held by sleep experts has it that normal body temperatures play off the body’s circadian rhythm. Those temperatures are low during sleep and at their highest point during the day.
Along those lines, it’s thought that the body begins to get drowsy as its temperature drops. Therefore, a warm bath taken about 4 or 5 hours before bedtime will raise that temperature. Then, as it begins to fall, you’ll feel more tired, which will make it easier to fall asleep.

A soothing bubble bath, clean, comfortable & warm bed, a glass of warm milk, scented candles [soft scented], and Soft mellow music does the job! :]

I am a RN and see prescription meds used all the time, causing dependency and major side effects. I work nights and can never sleep right due to mixed up hours. I started using melatrol, which contains melatonin. This is a wonderful natural remedy that does not give you a ‘”hungover” feeling the next day.
Melatonin is produced in the dark, therefore light halters it’s production by the pineal gland in the brain. When supplemented, the body then feels tired as it should when the chemical is peaked in the body.

A nice hot cup of chamomile tea works wonders for me. The best remedy for insomnia is to do a lot of physical work during the day…works every time. Or look after a two year old all day…that works like a charm too. Or read a boring book.

Melatonin crops up a lot. Its a natural chemical that occurs in the brain. During the day, sunlight builds it up, then when the lights go out it drops (or vice-versa), telling your body “time to sleep” (I’m no expert, just picked these things up, insomniacs have more time in the day, positive to everything!). The tablets is just this stuff from the sun in a bottle. So get outside in fresh air and sun as much as you can (fresh air keeps you awake and come nighttime, drowsiness kicks in then, instead of during day).
Exercise (park car 200yds farther away etc) and get up same time, regardless of nights sleep (or lack) 0930 latest.
Milky drink great but warm so your body doesn’t have to warm it up for you (99.9% sure), as well as chills and other stuff not sure about.
Sedatives last resort, to get body clock back on time etc (week tops) but they are prescribed because they are so good, but, like all good things, abused, and ruined for the trustworthy honest majority.
Conclusion, You think therefore you are ( in first person tell yourself, I am etc, Descartes, great philosopher), so when you want to sleep, at the right time, you are in charge of you, think ‘I AM TIRED THEREFORE I SLEEP’
One step at a time though eh.
Good luck, sweet dreams, then use the dreams to acheive them!

      hi there…
if you find that you are sleepless, and it make you worried, so how to combat it ?
i think , you need medicine or pill for insomnia, i have site reference, it is melatrol,
it has combined quality natural ingredients to combat your insomnia on a long term basis: compounds such as melatonin and gamma amino butyric acid are commonly found in healthy people, however many individuals do not produce enough of these compounds, and as a result experience trouble falling asleep and sleeping through the night.
There offer you free and trial first, try it !! there is nothing wrong to try i.
      I hope it helps.
      Lucky for you !!!

There are some wonderful home remedies out there that really do work without the horrible side effects that ambien has! the first is meletonin it can help alot of people but if your insomnia is really bad then try Valerian root, I hate say this but Valerian root smells HORRID! But it works well.
Sometimes insomnia is caused by stress and sometimes mothers good old fashioned recipes works well. About an hour before bed sit in a quiet dimly lit room and listen to non stimulating music, you could even write in a journal to get rid of some of that pent up issues. DO NOT READ! Reading will actually stimulate the brain. you can preced this session with a warm bath and chamomile tea.
take the Valerian or Melentonin with a cup of water (warm not cold) at the begining of your “cool down” session.
If you think you have mild headaches that may be the root of your sleeping issues try placing lavender under your pillow!
Insomnia can be our bodies way of telling us something is wrong, either physically, mentally or in life situations, the brain will continue to dwell and bring us back to situations at hand until they are resolved.
Also, when you finally go to bed, place a ticking clock in your room and intentionally listen to each tick. this will keep you occupied while falling asleep.
ANd finally, If you are a smoker or caffiene drinker, do not smoke before bed or drink high caffiene drinks for at least 3 hours before bed.
      Hope that helps!

I drink a glass of cherry juice two hours before I go to bed. I have been donig this for the past three months and I sleep great. I my doctor and told my about the Fruit Advantage cherry capsules which have more natural melatonin than the cherry juice. Give it a try.
