How Long Should A 5 Months Old Baby Sleep During The Day?

  • Sharebar

I have a 5 months old baby girl , how many hours should she sleep during the day ?

“how many hours should she sleep during the day”
Well, I’m a stay at home mom and I was hell bent on getting my baby on a schedule and doing everything the way other people told me I “should”. Soon, I realized that in order for me to put him on a schedule – I had to be on a schedule – and we’re not…we’re just not “scheduled” people! Anyway, what I’m getting at is that I have totally changed my attitude…I don’t worry about what he “should” be doing…how much he “should” be eating, how much he “should” be sleeping, what milestones he “should” have reached by now, etc… My son is just about 5 months (in a couple of days he will be) and when he starts getting sleepy during the day…I lay him in his crib and he sleeps. When he is cranky and isn’t hungry and it’s been a while since he’s eaten, I feed him… He’s happy, I’m happy, we’re all happy and I feel MUCH better, much more relieved that I’m not worrying about what he “should” be doing and just letting him do what he does!
In a nutshell – if you’re baby is happy, I wouldn’t worry about the “shoulds”!!
Enjoy your little angel!

As many as she wants, there are no rules. :)

My daughter sleeps from 7:30pm to 6:30am at night. During the day she has 2 naps. 1st nap 3 hours after she wakes up and she sleeps for 45 minutes to a maximum of 1 1/2 hours. Then the 2nd nap is usually around 2 or 3pm and I don’t let her sleep past 4:30pm so she’ll be tired enough to go to sleep at bedtime. If she wakes up earlier like 5am I have to squeeze in another 45 minute nap about 2 hours after she woke up to kind of keep her on schedule. It took a lot of work though to get her on this routine, but it’s totally worth it.

How much does she sleep through the night? She should be getting in total about 14 hours of sleep a day/night so just do the math. Every baby is different. My daughter is 6 months and she sleeps 12 hours at night so she doesn’t take very long naps during the day, but it seems to work out to around 14 hours.

I have 7mth old twins, they’ve slept for about 12hrs at night, plus 2 naps during the day, 1st nap about 3hrs, 2nd nap about 1/2hrs
