Did Anyone There Try Melatonin And Valerian For Insomnia?

    By administrator | December 13, 2009

I took those remedies for almost three months and now I’m trying to reduce the dose, but I have some difficulty to stay asleep at night. I wake up several times but easy to fall asleep again.

Yes, I’ve tried both as well as other remedies. passionflower, hops, catnip & skullcap are others I’ve tried w/hops giving me the best result. calcium & magnesium supplements in 2/1 ratio are also beneficial. be careful w/melatonin as it can cause depression in some people. good luck.

Expose yourself to plenty of light in the day, try exercising as this will increase your body’s need for deep sleep. Eat well and avoid stimulants and alcohol period. Cut down on sugar and also try and engage in some mental activities too in the day.
In the evenings, give yourself time to unwind, dim lighting, have a relaxing bath, avoid too much stimulation -no work, no food, no stimulants.
Try listening to some soothing music, breathing exercises and try a glass of warm milk – allthough this isn’t always that effective. In bed try progressive relaxation, try and relax all your muscles from your head to your toes. I hope some of this helps. i went through a stage where i took too many valerian pills every night to help me get to sleep & it just made me feel worse cos i felt depressed & lethargic for no real reason. i think it’s better to avoid any kind of sleep medication whether it’s herbal or not cos it screws up your body’s natural chemicals. valerian can cause people to feel more anxious. i would just stop taking it altogether. try exercising instead.

I’ve tried alluna, which is a combo of valerian and hops with good results the first 5 days. After that, I couldn’t sleep. I stayed away from melatonin because many had told me it was ineffective for them and can cause adverse effects.
After reading a bit about herbal sleep remedies, I found valerian can also be bad for your liver, so be careful. I definitely wouldn’t take it long term, so therefore, it would not be a good remedy for chronic insomnia.
Recently, I’ve been drinking chamomile tea, reading about 50 pages and forcing myself to be in bed at 11. It sometimes works, but here it is almost 4a.m. and I’m still awake.
Best of luck and remember that since everyone reacts differently to herbal medicine, what works for me may not work for you.

No you can try this . Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. Soak a tablespoon of mint leaves in a cup of water for an hour, drink every night. Check out http://useinfo-insomnia.blogspot.com/ for more info
