natural cures for insomnia

What Is An Effective Treatment For Severe Insomnia?

  • Sharebar

I am interested in nonaddictive, natural treatments. I have tried melatonin, magnesium, and chamomille tea– none are effective. Help!

I have tried Valerian Root pills- i bought mine at GNC and they really worked. They made me relaxed enough to go to sleep and when i woke up i felt rested and not like some sleeping pills like Tylenol pm. made me feel exhausted. The pills have a very strange and strong odor though… so you may want to plug your nose when taking them.

How much magnesium are you taking? Are you drinking a lot of soda by chance because phosphates will wash this out of your system and make it much less effective. Also, the type of magnesium you take really does matter in quality and for it to absorb. Perhaps an integrated approach with relaxing music along with some ideas others have mentioned might help too. Magnesium and such do not work for everyone. Have you tried kava? My favorite store here is the Vitamin Shoppe. They or any good supplement or natural foods retailer could be better to show you all the different things available for restlessness or insomnia that they carry. Gosh, if you have a family member or a significant other who could give you a neck or back massage once in awhile it might help you to relax too. Or, you could get one of those massager chair things. It always helps for your muscles to be relaxed in order to sleep. If you want to give the magnesium another try and if you are taking one that is not as easy to absorb try mag gluconate or citrate but follow the label and/or ask your doc.
Hope you can find a way to get some better rest.

hmm…the only effective natural one I can think of is addictive, and would be raw opium or poppy pod tea…which of course is just morphine as it comes from the plant.
Why do you not see a doctor, if used as prescribed, benzodiazapines how a low risk of addiction and are very effective.
You can try the sedating histamine antagonists, which are not addictive or abusable…diphenhydramine, doxylamine, promethazine and so forth. they tend to be very sedating and hypnotic.

if you have severe insomnia you are probably not getting enough excercise. Try running like and hour a day really early in the morning and go through your day like normal and by 10pm you will be so tired you will pass out i promise. Or take a handful of tylenol pm. Its your choice.

the absolute only thing that works for me is forcing myslef to get up at 4am, then by 10 pm i am exhausted. i do this every day for a week and my body kicks into a cycle.either that or get a perscription of ambien. atleast 10 mg.
remember otc sleep aids are only benedryl. nothing else.

If you are a male sleep with a girl you admire an find virtually nothing about her to criticize. Get a climax and put her head on your shoulder. You can add and ear bud attached to a radio tuned to a talk show. It works for me.

Try being more active during the day, this will tire your body out. Also you should go to the doctor because insomnia can be a big problem and can lead to other problems, best be getting it checked out sooner rather than later.

Natural source 5HTP (extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia Flower) works really well for insomnia. Take 100mg about 1.5 hours before your bedtime. You can buy 5HTP at many pharmacies and most health Food stores now.
